On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, Mumbai’s Shri Mumbadevi Mandir Charities hosted its annual mango festival at the historic Mumbadevi Temple on Sunday, April 19. Read on to know more about the festival.

Mumbadevi Temple Celebrates Annual Mango Festival

According to the temple trust, ‘Aamba Mahotsav’ (Mango Festival) was celebrated today on the temple premises on Mumbadevi Road. The event coincided with the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and forms a part of a long-standing tradition observed every year. The festival draws devotees from across the city. The festival featured special decorations of mangoes and floral arrangements that adorned the temple.

Not only this, but the rituals were also conducted in keeping with the customary religious practices associated with the festival. During the celebration, the temple is decorated with over 12,000 mangoes offered to the deity. The temple is adorned with fresh Alphonso mangoes, which attracted thousands of devotees to the annual event.

The official Instagram page of the temple also shared the first pictures of the ‘Shringaar’, featuring mangoes. Sharing the photos, they wrote, “Today’s Shringaar. Mata Mumbadevi, Mata Jagdamba Devi,
Mata Annapoorna Devi.”

About The Annual Mango Festival

Devotees who visited the shrine had the opportunity to seek blessings during what is considered a highly auspicious time in the Hindu calendar. Arrangements were made to accommodate the large number of devotees who visited the temple, with temple authorities urging visitors to maintain decorum and follow guidelines during darshan.

The Mumbadevi Temple in Mumbai hosts the Mangi Festival event annually, typically during the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The celebration is a symbolic offering to the harvest season with special prayers. Located in south Mumbai, the Shri Mumbadevi Temple is one of the city’s oldest and most prominent religious sites, dedicated to Goddess Mumbadevi, the patron deity after whom Mumbai gets its name. The annual mango festival is a significant cultural and religious event for devotees.
