Italy was one of the worst hit due to the pandemic. However, the country has now announced that it is set to reopen borders for tourism from 1 June 2021. Tourists from the UAE and other countries can now plan trips to Italy. So, if you’re planning a trip to Italy this summer, here’s everything you need to know.

Who Can Travel To Italy From The UAE?

Vaccinated UAE residents, with a negative PCR test taken no longer than 48 hours before travel, can enter Italy. However, travellers who have transmitted via Bangladesh, Brazil, India or Sri Lanka in the past 14 days will not be permitted to enter Italy.

What Are The Rules Before Departure?

All passengers must complete the following declaration forms before arrival. The EU Digital Passenger Locator Form must be filled to enter the Italian territory. Passengers must be able to present the form as a print out or in digital format on their device. A QR code will be issued when the form is submitted and this must be presented at the time of check in.

On arrival in Italy, all passengers must undergo a Rapid Antigen Swab Test at their own expense. Children under age 2 are exempt. The test costs €20 ($25) euros and must be pre-booked online here.

What Are The Restrictions In Place In Italy?

Travellers must wear facemask at all times. Shops, theatres, cinemas and museums have reopened, but with strict restrictions in place. A night curfew is in place from 11pm to 5am and residents and visitors must stay indoors during these hours. What Are Rules Upon Arrival In UAE?

Upon returning to the UAE, travellers need to take a PCR test. Besides, those landing in Abu Dhabi will be tested again, free of charge, on arrival. Italy is not on Abu Dhabi’s green list, so travelers coming in will have to undergo quarantine. Non-vaccinated travellers must quarantine for 10 days, while those who are fully vaccinated must self-isolate at home for five days.

Which Airlines Are Currently Flying To Italy?

Etihad has direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Rome. Fares start at AED 2300. From Dubai, Emirates operates daily flights to Milan with fares from AED 2,603. There are also four weekly flights to Rome with tickets from AED 2,317, and three flights per week to Bologna with fares starting from AED 3,132. Low-cost airline flydubai is set to start direct flights to Naples from 5 June.
