Mandatory fortnightly covid test for employees in Abu Dhabi is already in place, and now the government has announced new rules for employees in these sectors. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has announced that as of March 28, the unvaccinated workers of five sectors should routinely take a PCR Covid-19 test every 14 days. The sectors include- hotels, restaurants, transportation, laundries, beauty salons and hairdressers.

The Rules Come Into Effect From March 28 And Employees From All 5 Sectors Need To Follow It
The announcement is made on a national level and doesn’t specify individual emirates, which means that it’s applicable UAE-wide. Citizens who have already received the covid-19 vaccine are exempted from this rule. The rules come into effect from March 28, and everyone must follow the guidelines.

UAE Has Vaccinated 7 Million Citizens So Far
Employees who cannot take the vaccine for medical reasons like- nursing mothers, for example, must speak to their HR and get in touch with the MOHRE. However, the rest must ensure that the stated guidelines are met.

In terms of vaccine, UAE has successfully vaccinated 7 million citizens, and the government has also announced that all the citizens can now take the vaccine, which was initially limited to the elderly and 45+ people. One can take the covid jab for free, and it’s available across 205 centres in the UAE. However, prior appointments are mandatory.

Over the last six weeks, over 72% of senior citizens and those with chronic diseases in the country have received the Covid vaccine. Overall, over 56% of residents have received the vaccine. Four vaccines are available in the country: Sinopharm, Pfizer, Sputnik V and AstraZeneca. So if you haven’t received a jab yet, book your appointment right away.
