US Mission To India: US Exceeds Granting Over 1 Million Non-Immigrant Visas From India In 2023

US Mission to India is a mission of the United States Embassy and one of its biggest goals is to process and grant a total of one million non-immigrant visas this year. It is only September and it looks like that mission is accomplished as the US has recently exceeded granting 1 million non-immigrant visa applications from India. Here’s all you need to know about this marvellous achievement!

US Processed More Than A Million Non-Immigrant Visas So Far This Year

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, the U.S. Embassy India (@USAndIndia) announced the grand news of reaching and surpassing their goal to process one million visa applications in 2023.

Eric Garcetti, the ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of India, presented the one million non-immigrant visa to the visa holder on Thursday. He handed it to Dr. Ranju Singh who has plans to travel to the US to join her son at the MIT graduation celebration in May 2024, according to a report by NDTV.

Dr. Ranju Singh is a senior consultant at Lady Hardinge College. The US Embassy sent her an email notifying her that she became the recipient of the one-millionth non-immigrant visa in the year 2023. Puneet Dargan, her husband, was the next person to receive the visa to fly to the United States.

In comparison to 2023, the US Mission to India has exceeded the number of visa applications granted in the year 2022. Not just the last year, this year is reporting the numbers even higher than that of 2019. 2023 is witnessing about 20 per cent above the visa applications of 2019.

The connection between India and the US is now considered as one of the world’s most robust travel relationships. In a statement, the US Embassy and Consulates in India shared that more than 1.2 million Indian nationals took a trip to the US, as per a report by DNA. The statement also added that Indians are currently more than 10 per cent of the world’s total visa applications. This number also includes 20 per cent student visa applicants and 65 percent H&L-category visa applicants.
