A massive storm blew over the mid-Atlantic states of the USA, bringing with it freezing rain, ice, and heavy snow. Virginia and West Virginia were the hardest hit regions because of this weather disruption. Reportedly, the storm led to numerous car accidents, school closures, power outages, and flight delays.
Snowstorm Hits The Mid-Atlantic States Of USA
On Tuesday, a snowstorm swept over the USA’s mid-Atlantic states. According to The New York Times, this storm was part of a pattern of wintry weather that affected states like Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, southern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and West Virginia from Tuesday through Wednesday,

Due to the widespread disruption by the storm, schools were shut down and 900 car accidents were reported in Virginia. As per the National Weather Service, more than a foot of snow accumulated in some areas of Virginia and West Virginia. Furthermore, around 180,000 people in 30 counties across Virginia were left without power on Wednesday afternoon. As per the latest update, freezing rain is forecasted through Thursday in the western region of the state, but winter weather warnings were cancelled.
Snowy Weather Disrupts Flight Operations
According to USA Today, the massive snowstorm severely impacted travel across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions of the USA on Wednesday. Flight-tracking site FlightAware reported that more than 450 flights were cancelled nationwide, and about 3,700 were delayed by at least 15 minutes by 2:30 PM ET.
The National Weather Service also issued warnings about icy roads, poor visibility, and possible traffic jams across Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The authorities requested people to stay indoors and refrain from needless travel.
