Indore in Madhya Pradesh had bagged the cleanest city in India title for the 4th time in a row under the Swachh Bharat Mission. And now, it is the smartest city top. Indore shared its top position with Surat for best performance among 100 smartest cities. Madhya Pradesh bagged the award in eleven categories. The survey ranked Uttar Pradesh as the best-performing state.
Indore & Surat Are The Smartest Cities In India
While Surat topped the list in 2019, Indore now shares its position with Surat in being the smartest city. Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs awarded states, cities, and Union Territories based on performance under the Smart Cities Mission’s India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2020. 5 Madhya Pradesh Cities Made It To The List
In fact, Indore topped in seven different categories and Bhopal, managed to win one award. Jabalpur, Sagar, and Gwalior were also at the top of the list in several categories. A total of five cities in Madhya Pradesh made it to the list. The Smart City Mission has completed six years. Indore has also consistently emerged as the cleanest city in the country. It has removed large public dustbins and collects garbage from house to house. The roads of Indore get cleaned at night instead of morning. So when people venture out into the streets in the morning they can witness a clean and tidy city. Children also take part in cleanliness drives to create awareness. They act as ambassadors of cleanliness in Indore. Interestingly, Indore ranked at 149th position in 2015 for cleanliness. But in just 2 years, the city worked hard to maintain cleanliness and emerged as the cleanest city in India.
While Madhya Pradesh leads the way, other states of the country should follow suit.
