We have some amazing news for travellers. Uttarakhand has now opened its first dedicated Geographical Indication (GI) Products Gallery in Haldwani. The gallery will become a one-stop destination for tourists looking to immerse themselves in the state’s rich agricultural diversity and centuries-old artisanal traditions. Here’s everything you can see at this gallery! 

Uttarakhand Opens Its First GI Products Gallery In Haldwani

The Forest Training Academy (FTA) in Haldwani is now home to Uttarakhand’s first GI Products Gallery. The space brings together the state’s unique farm produce, traditional crafts and cultural heritage under one roof for tourists. According to The New Indian Express, the gallery has products sourced from remote parts of the state, including perishable food items that have been preserved using specialised techniques.

The gallery showcases Bedu (Himalayan fig), Ramnagar litchi and Ramgarh peach, along with Munsiyari White Rajma, Kumaon Chyura Oil, Almora Lakhori Chilli, Berinag Tea and Uttarakhand Kala Bhat, a variety of black soybean. Reportedly, the gallery has been established to familiarise trainees, government officials and visitors with Uttarakhand’s rich agricultural diversity and centuries-old artisanal traditions.

Traditional Crafts, Nainital Candles & More 

According to The New Indian Express, the gallery also showcases the renowned crafts of Uttarakhand. These include Kumaoni Aipan art and Chamoli’s hand-carved wooden Ramman masks, which are used in the UNESCO-recognised Ramman folk theatre tradition.

Visitors can also expect to see traditional Tamta copperware, decorative products made using Himalayan bamboo, Nainital candles and Buransh squash. All these products reflect Uttarakhand’s unique Himalayan geography and cultural identity. Reportedly, Uttarakhand has more than 30 GI-tagged products across agriculture, handicrafts, food items and manufactured products. This is why the gallery serves an important purpose in showcasing these goods to tourists.
