Varanasi: PM Modi To Lay The Foundation Of India’s First Public Transport Ropeway. Here’s All About It.

What is the most thrilling transport mode? A Ropeway! Varanasi is set to become the country’s first ropeway for transport. The city is set to introduce public transport and the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh had held a review meeting. And Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit Varanasi to lay the foundation of this new ropeway.

The city is set to introduce a ropeway system for public use. This ropeway will connect Varanasi Cantonment to Godaulia Chowk. The length of the ropeway is nearly about four kilometres and Godaulia Chowk is the nearest spot to Kashi Vishwanath temple. In addition to this, the ropeway will cover five stations, namely Girija Ghar, Varanasi Cantt, Rath Yatra, Godaulia Chowk and Vidyapeeth. This new mode of transport is said to reduce travel time to fifteen minutes. The Prime Minister is said to lay the foundation of this new transport system.

Chief Secretary Of Uttar Pradesh

The Chief Secretary of the state, Durga Shankar Mishra, reviewed the progress of the project. He instructed the state’s government officers to complete the formalities and commence the work by March 2023. He also stated that this is a new chapter of development for Varanasi. And it is a moment of pride for the city and this new method will help clear congestion too. Besides, the city is buzzing with tourists and the ropeway can be a great piece of attraction.

The construction of this ropeway was given to Vishwa Samudra Engineering Private Limited which will collaborate with a Switzerland-based company.

Ropeways In India

The ropeway system is not new in India, but it has never been used as a public transport method in urban cities. The northern hilly areas like Gulmarg, Patnitop, Manali, Mussoorie, Gangtok, and Auli have aerial transport systems. And they offer a beautiful view of the surroundings. Though this system is beneficial in hilly areas, the decision to implement it in Varanasi is an experiment that we hope is successful.
