The recent downpour in Mumbai has put the newly inaugurated metro Aqua Line to the test! A now-viral video on social media captured a notable leakage at the Kalina Metro Station, following heavy rainfall in the city. This has raised many questions about the readiness of the infrastructure as well as its quality.
Leakage Observed At Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line Station
Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on October 5. However, just days after its inauguration, a significant leakage was noted at the Mumbai University (Kalina) Metro Station. The video, which has now been shared multiple times on social media, shows heavy leakages around the entry/exit area of the station. The incident took place after Mumbai experienced particularly heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday.
According to a Free Press Journal report, eyewitnesses described the whole incident as disappointing and chaotic. Reportedly, commuters saw heavy leakages from the metro station ceilings along with puddles on the station’s floors. Due to this leakage, passengers were seen manoeuvring with caution around the station to avoid slippery areas.
Concerns Raised About The Infrastructure’s Durability
Mumbai Metro 3 is the first underground metro in the city. Upon its inauguration, this metro line hoped to ease Mumbai’s traffic congestion and make travel smoother for the passengers. However, the video of the leakage at Kalina Metro Station on Mumbai’s new Aqua Line has raised many concerns.
Netizens on various social media platforms pointed out how instead of offering state-of-the-art facilities and a seamless commuting experience, the new metro line has added to the traveller’s woes! People are now questioning the quality of construction and the readiness of the infrastructure after seeing the massive leakage just days after the metro line’s inauguration.
With the new Aqua Line, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited aims to reduce vehicular trips in Mumbai by 6.65 lakh per day! The authorities aim to cater to 4 lakh passengers every day to achieve the numbers. However, with this early setback, netizens are truly concerned about the readiness of this metro line!
