What Is It?

Keibul Lamjao, world’s only floating national park is located in the Bishnupur District of Manipur. It was set up in the year 1975 with the motive to shelter and protect Sangai deers and ever since the population of the deer has increased by a huge percentage.

The park extends upto an area of 40 sq.km and shelters animals ranging from rare wild cats like the Marbled Cat to the Asian Golden Cat. Other animals that can be seen at the park are the Himalayan black bears and the Malayan bears along with a huge range of reptiles ranging from tortoises to snakes.The agriculture and fishing activities within the area of park have been prohibited so as to give these rare deers a chance to survive and multiply.
