West Bengal: Nor’wester Spell To Bring Intense Winds, Heavy Rains & Hailstorms 

Parts of West Bengal are currently reeling under intense winds and heavy rainfall. A source from Chakdaha stated that the windows and doors at her home are shaking due to the thunderstorms. Read on to know more about the current weather condition in Kolkata and what you can expect.

Parts Of West Bengal Hit By Winds, Rains & Thunderstorms

IndiaMetSky Weather (@indiametsky) took to their Twitter handle to announce the current weather forecast. Sharing the either stats it mentioned at an intense Kalbaisakhi or Nor’wester spell is currently moving over Gangetic West Bengal. This spell will bring intense winds up to 50 to 100 km/h. Parts of West Bengal will face varied-intensity rains along with isolated hailstorms. 

Regions like Kolkata, Bardhaman, Durgapur, Katwa, Howrah, Chandannagar, Kharagpur and Khrishnanagar will face severe thunderstorms. The adjoining areas bordering north Odisha will also face the brunt of the same. IndiaMetSky Weather’s tweet warns people in West Bengal to take care and plan their evenings in advance as 3 to 4 hours later they could expect heavy rains.

Exactly 3 hours after this tweet, a source from Chakdaha revealed that it rained heavily for 15 minutes and then it reduced. While it continues to rain in Chakdaha, many parts of West Bengal like Barrackpore, Nadia and North 24 Parganas are facing thunderstorms. The sky is grey in Chakdaha, but it’s comparatively clear in other parts like Barrackpore.

Met Bulletin Says The State Can Expect Thunderstorms From May 23 To 27

Meanwhile, a Met bulletin revealed on Monday that south Bengal can expect a spell of enhanced thunderstorm activities from May 23 to 27. A Met official even revealed to Telegraph India that the city can hope for a couple of thunderstorms during the said period. But when it doesn’t rain, the weather can be hot and humid in the state. The official further stated that an enhanced thunderstorm alert is issued in West Bengal as thunderstorms are likely over the next few days.
