Dubai has always taken food seriously, but now it’s adding some flair to the table with the Food Elite Programme. Unlike the usual regulatory grind of penalties and inspections, this initiative from Dubai Municipality focuses on recognition. It’s the first government-led programme of its kind, aimed at applauding food establishments that excel in safety, sustainability, and social responsibility. With over 400 eager applicants, the stage is set for a culinary showdown at the 18th Dubai International Food Safety Conference, happening from 21 to 23 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
DM Food Elite: A Menu With A Mission
The theme of the conference, ‘Future Foresight in Food Safety,’ hints at how Dubai is shaping tomorrow’s food landscape. Sultan Al Tahir, Director of the Food Safety Department, emphasised the revolutionary nature of this initiative
The Food Elite Programme doesn’t serve up your average awards. The competition is split into three categories: formal dine-in restaurants, hotel-affiliated restaurants, and quick-service food outlets. Each of these categories will crown three winners, handpicked by a jury of experts with global experience. Out of 30 shortlisted establishments, only nine will take home the prestigious titles.
The evaluation process was no casual affair. Ten food safety specialists, with over 3,100 hours of experience, assessed each applicant meticulously over 392 working days. This rigorous process included desk-based evaluations, interviews, and site visits, leaving no room for shortcuts.
Al Tahir also linked the initiative with larger strategic goals, noting its alignment with both the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the Dubai Food Security Strategy. The aim is not just safety but ensuring food sustainability with a future-proof vision, making Dubai a global trailblazer in food excellence.
