With remote and hybrid work models becoming the new reality, people have worked out a way to find their version of work-life balance! A new travel trend called ‘quiet vacationing’ has been gaining momentum lately. According to this travel trend, employees (mostly remote and hybrid workers) are planning vacations without actually applying for any leaves or informing their bosses. They can achieve this because they never really disconnect from work while they’re on vacation.

They carry their laptop and all the necessary things required to their holiday destination, work as usual, and then travel around and explore the place they’re vacationing at This trend is particularly popular among millennials and Gen Z and has significantly changed the way they plan a holiday.

According to a report in NDTV, taking time off while working remotely is very popular these days. They quoted a recent survey by The Harris Poll that stated that millennials and Gen Z “felt anxious about asking for personal time off (PTO).” So, in their way to strike a work-life balance, these age groups are now turning to new travel trends like quiet vacationing

The Harris Poll survey further revealed that about 78% of the workers in the US don’t even utilise their (PTO) days. Furthermore, as per a report in the Guardian, about 40% of millennials admitted to having followed this trend and taken time off without telling their bosses. While some of them actually work, others just pretend and create an impression on their supervisors. The struggle is real!

This travel trend is quite interesting! While on one hand it sounds fun and looks like a great way of striking a work-life balance; on another it raises concerning questions about how people are overworked and fearful about their jobs.  Let us know your two cents on this in the comments!
