Northern India is blessed with many hill stations and mountainous areas. You can travel to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, or even Kashmir to enjoy the serenity of nature and fulfil your travel bucket list. However, the crowd at many of the popular destinations can be quite a turn-off. That’s why instead of Mussoorie and Nainital, we recommend taking your next vacation in Kanatal! Less than 50 kilometres from Mussoorie, Kanatal is a serene getaway for a peaceful vacation.
Lesser-Known Gem And A Peaceful Escape From Maddening Crowd
About a two-hour drive from Mussoorie, Kanatal is a quaint little hill station that should be on your 2024 bucket list! This hamlet used to have a small lake or ‘taal’ that dried up a few decades ago. Thus came its name – Kanatal, which literally means a lake that doesn’t exist any longer!
If you love apples, then Kanatal will be your haven. This hill station has many apple orchards around it and you can grab some fresh ones if you visit during August or September. You’ll find overflowing trees with juicy apples, and that truly is a sight for sore eyes! Besides that, Kanatal is surrounded by tall pine, deodar, and rhododendron forests, making it a nature lover’s paradise.
Summer To Winter – Kanatal Is A Perfect Getaway In Every Season
One of the best things about Kanatal is that this place is for all seasons! This hill station has a different landscape in every weather. It is a cool, refreshing getaway in the summer and covered with snow in winter. Autumn sees the meadows covered in colourful leaves and spring brings a burst of liveliness with its bright hues.
From Camping To Rappelling – It Is An Adventure Junkie’s Paradise
Uttarakhand is the hotspot for many adventure sports in North India and Kanatal doesn’t disappoint in this aspect either! You can enjoy hiking on nature trails around the hamlet or trek to the snow-capped peaks nearby. If camping is your idea of fun, then you can book one in Kanatal. Besides that, one can also check out adventure sports like valley crossing, rappelling, ziplining, sky cycling, and giant swing – to name a few.
If you’re not an adventurous soul, then you can visit Tehri Dam, the famous Surkanda Devi Temple, or check out the jungle safari at Dhanaulti Eco Park or the Kaudia Forest.
All in all, if you’re looking for an escape from city life, then the rustic setting, organic food, lush greenery, snowy peaks, and apple orchards of Kanatal are a welcome change.
