Will Mumbai’s Haji Ali Dargah Get The World’s Tallest National Flag? Here’s What We Know

The Haji Ali Dargah, the iconic Sufi shrine located on a small islet in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Worli in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is set to get the world’s tallest national flag. A proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government regarding this. Here’s more about this recent update that you should know.

World’s Tallest National Flag To Be Installed At Haji Ali Dargah 

Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a renowned Sufi shrine and the final resting place of the 15th-century Sufi saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. It is one of India’s foremost spiritual landmarks and is visited by lakhs of people every year. The shrine is located on a small islet off the Worli coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea. Now, the shrine is all set to get the world’s tallest national flag.

The announcement was made recently, and a proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government for the installation. Suhail Khandwani, trustee of the dargah, shared with Mid-Day that special piling and high-quality metal will be used for the flagpole because the shrine is located along the sea, and the authorities will have to take that into account.

The Shrine Attracts Thousands Of Visitors Of All Faiths 

Suhail Khandwani also told Mid-Day that the shrine holds a very important place in the history of India. It continues to stand as a beacon of faith, inclusivity and communal harmony. According to Deccan Herald, during Ramzan, the shrine attracts thousands of visitors. A special sehri was also organised recently by the trusts of Haji Ali Dargah and Mahim Makhdoom Shah Baba Dargah in association with the LEGEND Group.

The sehri was attended by priests of different faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Parsis, Sikhs and Buddhists. Currently, only a proposal has been submitted. If everything goes according to plan, the world’s tallest national flag at the shrine could become a landmark symbol of patriotism, unity and the shared identity of the nation.

The dargah, which is a very important landmark in Mumbai, has white domes and Mughal-inspired architecture. According to Deccan Herald, the structure was erected on a set of high-rising rocks and was given its present-day shape in the early 19th century.
