A United Nigeria Airlines Embraer flight met with an accident on 1 June 2023. It was the ERJ-145 aircraft with registration number 5N-BWW and it faced the horrible incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. The aircraft skidded off the 18L runway at the Lagos airport after landing. The flight reached the airport from Ebonyi State International Airport. Here’s what happened to the aircraft on Wednesday.
United Nigeria Airlines Embraer ERJ-145 Aircraft Had 50 Passengers
While flying to Lagos from Ebonyi’s Abakaliki Airport, the flight had 50 passengers inside and cabin crew members. Though it was a safe landing on the 18L runway at the Lagos airport, the incident occurred right after that. After landing, the aircraft diverged its direction a bit and could not properly come to a halt at a grassy surface. This led to the runway incident where the United Nigeria Airlines Embraer flight skidded off.

At the present moment, the exact reason behind the sudden diversion on landing is still unknown. According to a report by AviationSource News, the investigation process has been conducted. The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria officials were present at the location. Also, Accident Investigation Bureau and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority investigators were also present there. The airline stated that they are also working on this incident along with the authorities.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria spoke on this incident recently. The runway was completely shut off for about two hours as the process of removing the United Nigeria Airlines flight was going on. After completing it, the operations at the runway resumed.
Everyone Inside The Aircraft Are In A Safe Condition
Something like this happening to a flight can surely scare the passengers sitting inside. Though the United Nigeria Airlines Embraer aircraft met with this scary runway incident, the good news is that everyone inside the flight is safe. They got out of the plane safely, reached the airport arrival hall, and then went ahead to continue their journey.
