Concession For All The Women Passengers On State-Run MSRTC Buses
MSRTC issued a press release on Friday stating that the decision of 50 per cent concession is coming under the Mahila Samman Yojana. Also, the Maharashtra government will reimburse the amount falling under the discounted ticket prices to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation. This 50 per cent discount for women on all public buses running in Maharashtra is commencing on 17 March, Friday.
The officials of the corporation are a bit unsure about how to establish the exact number of women passengers finding the 50 per cent concession to be helpful and valuable. This is the first time that MSRTC will be working on issuing tickets based on gender. It can be said that about 35 per cent to 40 per cent of these public bus passengers are women.
The Corporation Shared These Deets In The Recent Press Release
MSRTC runs more than 15,000 buses every single day. More than 50 lakh passengers use these buses for transporting to different corners of the state. The corporation shared all these numbers in its recent press release, issued on Friday. Not only just women but there are also several concessions and discounts for passengers belonging to different social groups. These discounted ticket prices range from 33 per cent to 100 per cent.
The state government also announced a 50% concession for all the MSRTC buses for people between 65 years to 74 years and a 100% discount for people over 75 years of age. They announced these concessions and discounts to celebrate the 75th Independence Day of India.
