China might soon be the home of the world’s fastest train. It recently completed a test run in the Shanxi province of the country. During the demonstration, it reached a speed of up to a whopping 1,000 kilometres per hour! This is because it employs a unique, cutting-edge technology called Magnetic Levitation or Maglev. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this train.

According to an article which was recently published by Swarajyamag, the test run took place in the Yanggao County of Datong City. The demonstration of the ultra-high-speed train or UHS is designed to reach a speed of 1,000 kilometres per hour.
China has launched the Maglev magnetic levitation train, which reaches speeds of up to 600 km/h. This innovative technology allows the train to float on tracks, eliminating friction and reducing noise. To put that in perspective, Vande Bharat trains, which currently are the fastest in India, can reach speeds of 180 kilometres per hour. This will revolutionise intercity travel for the country as it will allow travellers to journey between cities like Beijing and Shanghai in just 1.5 hours! As of now, it takes around 4.5 hours to travel between the two destinations.

What Is Maglev, Why It’s Fascinating And How Does It Work?
Magnetic Levitation or Maglev for short, is a cutting-edge technology that is still on its way to being perfected. Essentially, it uses magnetic force to propel an engine forward. Unlike other trains, the engine actually levitates slightly above the track.

Yes, the train legitimately flies, albeit at very low heights! By allowing the engine to levitate, friction between the wheels and track is reduced or eliminated entirely. It therefore allows the engine to achieve unprecedented speeds. The only question that still remains is of its sustainability which researchers are attempting to solve.
