The Trek To Yulla Kanda

Located in the serene Rora Valley of Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, Yulla Kanda is home to the world’s highest Shri Krishna temple. This ancient temple sits at an elevation of 3,895 metres (approximately 12,780 feet) above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges, including prominent passes like Buran Ghati, Listigarang Pass, and Kashang Pass.

The trek to Yulla Kanda is considered moderately difficult and of short duration. It begins at Yulla Khas, a picturesque village known for its Kinnauri apples. It is situated about 3 kilometres from Urni, the nearest village to the base camp. The entire trek covers approximately 12 kilometres round-trip.

The Route

Starting Point

The trek commences from Yulla Khas village, where travellers often stay overnight to acclimatize.

Scenic Journey

From Yulla Khas, the trail meanders through verdant landscapes. It also offers glimpses of local flora and fauna typical to the region.

Kashang Pass (4,800 m)

A notable part of the journey involves crossing the Kashang Pass at an altitude of 4,800 metres (approximately 15,750 feet). This pass certainly presents a difficult yet rewarding section of the trek. It is also known for its beautiful views of the Himalayas.


The trek ends at Yulla Kanda, where the serene lake and the ancient Krishna temple await.

It is renowned as the highest Krishna temple in the world. The legend of Yulla Kanda ties closely with the epic of Mahabharata. It is said that the Pandavas, during their period of exile, visited this region and contributed to the creation of the lake. It is not just a place for trekkers but also a pilgrimage site for the spiritually inclined.
