Bandra Gets A New Gastropub, House of Nomad At Taj Lands End

Under 140 Characters

Mumbai’s newest gastropub, House of Nomad has a posh home, Taj Lands End but still serves beer at only INR 200.

What Is It?

A beautiful central bar, bohemian chic design, delectable global tapas and skillfully designed cocktails attract the who’s who of Mumbai to the newest addition to Bandra’s social scene.

The First Look

The beautifully carved wooden bar sitting pretty in the middle is sure to get your eyeballs at first. The pendulum lights come second and this is then followed by an instant realization that you are wrapped in a plush wooden box. Box because the gastropub has cozy feels to it and wooden because it is all brown.

Just another look around and you see a wine wall with a ladder that has a wine collection from all around the world – USA, Austria, Australia, France, Italy, South Africa and more. That’s when you realise, the name – House of Nomad is quite apt.

The Vibe

House of Nomad exudes an energetic deco-inspired ambience. With the island bar being the centre of attention, it’s the lights that have been suspended from the ceiling and the expensive glasses hanging upside down that add the classy vibe. This gastropub showcases different genres of music from progressive to house and high energy.

We are not sure if the sophistication allows the pub to break into a dance floor but being here on a Saturday night should clear that doubt. It is an ideal setting for informal meetings, relaxed gatherings or an after-work scene.

The Drinks

If you haven’t figure it out yet, House of Nomad is more of a drinking place than an eating place. And why not? They have names like International barman Andrew Pearson and Resident Mixologist Jenna who are working their magic to craft innovative cocktails.

While the wine lovers have an entire floor to ceiling wall to choose from. Those who like it fresh out of the bar, must try a drink called Channel no. 6, which comes with a whiff of Channel perfume and a lipstick mold. Among the other recommendations, do try out the Bollywood Hopeful and Espress Yourself.

The Food

Designed by Chef Anirudhya Roy, the menu consists of dishes like marinated olives, Burrata croutons, Hand carved ham from Parma, Buttermilk Chicken and Sriracha Chilli Sandwich.

However, we loved the Total Lamb pie, Tangy Tomato Chutney (INR 475++), Shaved Parmesan Flatbread (INR 495++) and Chorizo Scotch Egg & Mustard Mayo (INR 350++)

The Verdict

We like this new addition to Bandra’s social circuit. Being a part of a five-star hotel chain, one would expect the prices to be heavy on your pocket but fortunately that’s not the case. The interiors are chic, the drinks are innovative, the prices are reasonable and vibe is fun. The space isn’t as big as one would expect and may get sweaty and packed on a Saturday evening. We would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
