Reports suggest a boiler explosion triggered the disaster around 1:40 pm. The thunderous blast, some witnesses claim to have heard three in quick succession, shattered windows in nearby homes and sent plumes of thick smoke billowing into the sky. The subsequent fire engulfed the factory and spread to surrounding buildings, including a car showroom.
