What is Nagara Metered Auto, The New Union-Backed App For Autos In Bengaluru? Here’s All About it

After the success of Namma Yatri, another transport union in Bengaluru will soon launch an auto-rickshaw app. Bengalureans say hello to ‘Nagara Metered Auto’ app which goes live on June 10, afternoon. Available on Google Play Store, this app is launched by Karnataka Rajya Chalakara Parishath (Karnataka State Driver’s Council) in collaboration with Agnibhu Technologies.

Commuters can book auto-rickshaws through the Nagara Metered Auto app. They can avail of rides at government-fixed prices of ₹30 for the first two km and then ₹15 for every km after that. This will be displayed on the meter. As most Bengalureans prefer booking rides on apps, this makes travel around the city hassle-free and budget-friendly as well.
K Somashekar also stated to the publication that many times, drivers don’t receive the right fare despite a long distance being covered. So, Nagara Metered Auto takes this into consideration. Drivers need to pay a small subscription fee. However, it will follow a zero-commission model like Namma Yatri, another app launched by an auto-rickshaw union. This new app won’t follow surge pricing either, which is beneficial for passengers.

Works On Zero-Commission Model, Drivers Can Initiate Rides Too

For long, this auto union has been fighting against bike taxis and the steep commission charged by ride-hailing aggregators. Nagara Metered Auto app will initially enrol 1000 drivers in its first phase. Only auto rickshaws having calibrated meters certified by the state Legal Metrology Department will be permitted to enrol. Also, this app allows drivers to initiate rides by themselves for passengers hailing rickshaws directly from the streets. This will be done by empowering drivers with unique QR codes. Also, this app gives drivers unique web pages to share their credentials with passengers.

Like other ride-hailing apps, passengers can book rides through the app. Once a driver accepts the ride, the OTP needs to be shared with the driver. Next, the driver will switch on the automap and follow the map displayed. Once the ride ends, the passenger needs to pay the fare displayed on the app by cash or UPI.
