When one thinks of flying taxis, they usually think of it as something in the distant future. However, Professor Satya Chakravarthy from the Indian Institute of Technology or IIT Madras has managed to turn this distant futuristic dream into a present reality. In a recent exclusive interview with News18, the esteemed professor spoke at length about e200, India’s first flying taxi. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this new mode of transportation.

According to an article which was recently published by News18, the aim of the project is to have an aircraft which can navigate the complex landscape of Indian cities. These cities have a unique set of logistical and other challenges when it comes to transportation.

Hence, the goal was to have an aircraft which managed to do so. Professor Chakravarthy of Aerospace Engineering stated that they wanted to make an aircraft which could make multiple trips before needing to be charged.

In the interview, he mentioned that it is likely that its maiden flight will happen sometime in October or November. Professor Chakravarthy has also highlighted that the aircraft can withstand extreme conditions and even potential failures.

Safety is, of course, of great importance. He mentioned that stringent international guidelines have been adhered to provide safety for passengers. What is more, multi-faceted safety strategies have also been designed to mitigate potential risks.

One of the challenges that the aircraft wanted to overcome was the issue of lack of space in the city. Hence, in order to ensure that journeys are more convenient, the design is quite compact. It can, therefore, effectively navigate well even in tiny spaces in bustling cities.
