In an unusual turn of events, two Batik Air pilots ended up dozing off mid-air on a flight in Indonesia. If reports are to go by, there were as many as 153 passengers on the flight. Luckily, though, no harm befell either the passengers or the crew members. The two pilots have been suspended temporarily and the airline, too, was “strongly reprimanded.” Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this unusual incident.
2 Batik Air pilots Suspended After Falling Asleep Mid-Air
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the Pilot-In-Command or PIC wanted to rest. So, he asked his co-pilot to take control of the flight. However, his co-pilot ended up dozing off as well.
When the Jakarta Air Traffic Control attempted to make contact with pilots, they received no response. After almost half an hour, the PIC woke up and discovered that the other pilot, too, had fallen asleep. He also realised that the flight had veered off its course.
He immediately took control of the flight and woke up his co-pilot. No further incidents were reported on the flight and it landed safely at the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

Pilots Suspended And Airline “Strongly Reprimanded” For It
Komite Nasional Kesalamatan Transportasi or KNKT, which is the National Transportation Safety Committee, released a report about the incident. As per the report, the PIC was tired from helping his wife take care of their recently-born twins.
Both the pilots, prior to the flight, had undergone medical tests and were deemed fit to pilot the jet. Following this incident, however, the airline has temporarily suspended the two pilots. Many reports also mention that the airline, too, was “strongly reprimanded.”
The airline also said that it was committed to implementing all safety recommendations and that it operates on an adequate rest policy.
