Saudi Arabia recently opened its doors to tourists. And since then, it’s been one of the top choices for people across the world. And it seems that those from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are certainly visiting this nation in large numbers. Yes, just in 2023, 8.6 million visitors from the GCC nations visited Saudi Arabia making its tourism sector flourish.

The tourism sector in Saudi Arabia is flourishing and the year 2023 was particularly good for this sector in the kingdom. Yes, 8.6 million visitors from the GCC nations injected more than SAR15 billion into the economy. Yes, this was revealed by the Ministry of Tourism’s annual statistics report, which was mentioned by the Saudi Press Agency. The report also identified that Bahrain topped the list with 3.4 million tourists. It was closely followed by Kuwait with 2.3 million, UAE with 1.4 million, Qatar with 1.1 million, and Oman with 4,55,000 visitors.

The Booming Tourism Industry In The Kingdom

In fact, Saudi Arabia in total welcomed a staggering 27 million international visitors who ended up spending SAR141 million in the kingdom. Combining the numbers of both domestic and international tourists, it surpassed 109 million! This is brilliant as the report highlights the strong growth and performance of the tourism sector in the kingdom. It is driven by the increased visitor numbers from not just the GCC, but the rest of the world. As it happens, the tourism sector has made a significant contribution to the economy of Saudi Arabia thereby demonstrating the kingdom’s appeal as a premier tourism destination.

This is obviously not surprising as there are many beautiful places to visit in the kingdom. From the awe-inspiring AlUla desert to the towering mountains in the Aseer region, the kingdom has a varied landscape that is enhanced by not just its natural beauty but also by the exciting activities that people can undertake here.
