9 Bollywood Movies That Will Remind You Of Goa And Its Beauty

Chal na bro, sab chodke Goa bhaag chalte hai! I’m sure this is how most of us feel given the lockdown that we are under. Because c’mon, Goa is everyone’s favorite escape – beautiful beaches, scooty rides and lots of sasta daaru – all of this while being pretty light on our pockets. However,  since we can’t immediately visit  Goa, the only possible way of reminiscing about it is through cinema. And Bollywood has made some great feel-good Goa movies, which will take us back to those ache din and alter our mood. With no means of transport to physically go there, let’s scoot our way to our favourite getaway through these movies, shall we? So here are 9 Bollywood movies that shall remind you of Goa.

1. Dil Chahta Hai

You knew this was coming, didn’t you? Well, no apologies for being too predictable, but Dil Chata Hai is such an evergreen film that it will always top the list to our favorite Goa movies. Three friends – one memorable Goa trip. A particular sequence in the film that screams Goa was one that was shot at the Chapora fort, which is now known to many as the ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ fort. Most of us are guilty of clicking a picture there in the same pose. Because why not? With excellent performances, this coming-of-age movie is a delight to watch and definitely makes us revive all those failed plans to Goa. Goa has abundant tourist spots for every kind of traveller.

2. Finding Fanny

Homi Adjania nailed the coffin with Finding Fanny. From the clothes to the mannerisms and even the Konkani spoken, Goan culture was depicted to the T. When Ferdie (Naseeruddin Shah) decides to find his lost love, he embarks on a road trip with Angie (Deepika Padukone), Savio (Arjun Kapoor) and Rosie (Dimple Kapadia) and Don Pedro (Pankaj Kapur). The Goa landscape is portrayed beautifully through this road trip in this satirical comedy. One can see glimpses of Parra, Cortalim, Aldona, Assagao, Saligao and Socorro in this film.

3. Singham

Think Singham and the famous Dona Paula action scene plays in front of our eyes. A Rohit Shetty film that has Goa at its centre, Singham is an action-drama film revolving around the story of an honest cop who takes it up to clean the corrupted government system. Watch this one for its famous dialogues and action sequences, and of course Goa. You can also plan a lovely trip to Goa to unleash your filmy side.

4. Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd

Debuting as a Bollywood director, Reema Kagti’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd was quite an offbeat film for its time. Six newlywed couples who are on a honeymoon package to Goa with a travel agency discover something new about each other across the movie. Multiple attractions of Goa, including Fort Aguada, Corjuem Fort, Dona Paula and Our Lady of Mount Chapel are highlighted in this movie. This is one comedy-drama you must watch.

5. Golmaal Series

Another Rohit Shetty film set in Goa, the movie incorporates the fun side of Goa, showcasing its beaches, water sports, bars, yachts and pubs. The famous catch-and-chase sequence of Golmaal was shot in and around the Old GMC Complex. Fort Aguada and Dona Paula Beach are also highlighted in a few of the shots. This comic caper should definitely make it to your Goa movie watchlist.

6. Dear Zindagi

A movie with a pertinent plot, Dear Zindagi centers around a young budding cinematographer who is discontented with her life. She then meets Dr. Jehangir, a free-spirited psychologist, who helps her to gain a new perspective in life. Here, Goa plays a vital role in this movie, almost acting as a part of the therapeutic process. The famous Salvador Do Mundo church, the Morjim beach, the farms and Parra roads flanked by coconut trees offer a calming and beautiful sight.

7. Guzaarish

Set in an old house in Goa that almost resembles a church, Guzaarish directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali showcases the Portuguese lifestyle in Goa. Old Portuguese-style mansions, the pristine beaches, the green fields, and the spacious grounds, the movie has some splendid shots of Goa’s natural beauty. This one’s definitely going to make you miss the calm of Goa.

8. Go Goa Gone

Three friends and a rave party – sounds so much like Goa. The movie showcases the party scene that Goa is famous for. We know you can’t make it to one right now – but you sure can through this movie.

9. Josh

Aah, Josh is special for us 90s kids for so many reasons. Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as siblings living in Goa, this movie showcased Goan culture beautifully. Set in the town of Vasco in Goa, the two rival street gangs and their antics entertained us way too much.
