Aashim Gulati & Suhail Nayyar Talk About Cultural Differences Between Delhi & Mumbai

On this fun episode of The Bombay Journey X Sunday Brunch, the stars of ‘Jee Karda’, Suhail Nayyar, Tamannaah Bhatia and Aashim Gulati joined us. Curly Tales’s Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani and Mashable India’s Siddharth Aalambayan had loads of interesting questions to ask them. One of the top ones is the clash between Delhi v/s Mumbai. Tamannaah is from Mumbai and the rest of our guests are from Delhi, hence the conversations were fascinating.

Aashim Gulati Shed Light On The Cultural Differences Between Delhi & Mumbai

While they were crossing the engineering marvel, Bandra-Worli Sealink, with an exceptional view of the Mumbai skyline, Kamiya asked our guests how welcoming Mumbai is for people who aren’t from this city. Both Aashim and Suhail hail from Delhi, hence, this was an apt question for them.

They told us that the city of dreams always has open arms for people outside of Mumbai. But right after that, they had hilarious and detailed discussions about the cultural differences between Delhi and Mumbai.

Aashim Gulati recalled an incident from his early days in Mumbai. He told us, “For Delhi people, it is very evident that you are from Delhi, apparently.” So someone from Mumbai asked him whether he was from Mumbai.

He answered that he was from Delhi and the other person was taken aback. Aashim elaborated that Mumbaikars have typical notions towards Delhiites but get upset if Delhiites don’t adhere to the list of notions. He also gave an example that Mumbai people think Delhiites are always clad in flashy Gucci or Armani. Is that true?

Next, it was Suhail’s turn to share cultural differences between these megacities. He told us that he was invited to a birthday party and was properly dressed for the occasion. Upon arriving at his destination, he noticed people removed their shoes and went inside the house. He didn’t want to do that because Delhi people don’t do it and his shoes were expensive.

Then he said that people were celebrating birthday parties in shorts! He found that weird because he said, “Yaar decorum toh hota hai na, kisine aap ko ghar bulaya hai.” He understood that this is how Mumbai people dress up for special occasions and parties as well; though it took him a long time.
