Arunachal Pradesh to get a swanky new airport very soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the Northeastern state to inaugurate its greenfield airport. Nestled in Itanagar, Donyi Polo airport is built on a whopping budget and it is also the state’s first-ever greenfield airport. With the initiation of services here, transportation will become smoother than ever with great connectivity and a boost in tourism. Read on to know all about this new airport in Arunachal Pradesh.

Spread over a massive area of 690 acres, the project cost a budget of over ₹640 crores. PM Modi will be here on 19 November for the inauguration of the new airport. As shared by the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement, the new Donyi Polo airport will function perfectly during the day in all sorts of weather. The PMO also stated that this terminal is a modern building. Also, it focuses on boosting energy efficiency, using renewable energy, and recycling resources as well.

In fact, he will also be inaugurating the “Kashi Tamil Sangamam”, as stated by the Prime Minister’s Office on the same day. Kashi Tamil Sangamam is a month-long celebration of history and connections between North India and South India held in Varanasi.

Wondering Why Is The Airport Called Donyi Polo?

The name of the Arunachal Pradesh airport signifies the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo). The airport aims to represent the culture, heritage, and traditions of the state.

Itanagar was the only capital city in the country without any air connectivity. And with the functioning of the Itanagar airport, there won’t be any capital city in India without an airport.

While inaugurating the new airport, PM Modi will give 600 MW Kameng hydropower station. The mega project costing over ₹8,450 crores, is built on an area of over 80 km in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. This will help the state to become a power-surplus state.
