It has been some time since we are hearing about the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s newest runway. Planes may start making their landing at the fourth runway from 7 September 2023, according to a report by Times of India. 7th September marks the day prior to all the leaders reaching India to attend the meeting on 9-10 September.

Till now, this runway has been used only for taking-off purposes. The Instrumental Landing System (ILS) of the newest runway faced some issues in the past. It has been imported from Russia and to resolve the problems, some Russian engineers are working on it, sources shared. There are expectations that the issues will get resolved soon and the runway can get operational for landing from 7 September after testing, as shared by sources according to the TOI report.

Special arrangements will be taking place for the G20 summit. The Delhi airport will have special parking areas for VVIP flights. About 55 VVIP flights will get parking spots at the Delhi Airport, according to a report by Millenium Post. Not only this, but 4 airports located close have been considered for parking to prevent any sort of parking issues. Proper arrangements of parking slots are a major priority to diminish the chances of any sort of parking issue due to space shortage. These parking areas will be used from 8 to 10 September.

Runways 27 and 28 are nearest to the Palam Technical Area. The time required to cover the distance between the runways and the technical area is the least. These have been selected for the G20 countries’ delegates (heads of states) landing at Delhi Airport.

Once the calibration work of the ILS is completed, two runways can be used for landing and departure. These two runways are located towards the Gurgaon region of Northern Access Road. Also, they are a major connecting bridge between Mahipalpur and T3.

Along with all these, four ambulances and four fire tenders will be arranged at the Delhi airport, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
