Bir-Billing in Himachal Pradesh is one of the most popular paragliding destinations in India. Paragliders, both beginners and professionals often flock to this mountain getaway for an adrenaline rush. And now, not just Bir-Billing the Himachal government is all set to promote Kangra district as the state’s tourist capital. For this, the airport near Bir Billing is undergoing an expansion. Here’s more to it.

Kangra To Become Himachal Pradesh’s Tourism Capital

Kangra will soon become Himachal Pradesh’s tourism capital. This is because the region is replete with tourist attractions like the Dhauladhar mountain range, forts, temples and even lush green tea estates in Palampur. The region is also known for local delicacies like madra, siddu, dham, and Kangra paintings, pottery, wood carvings and more.

So, in order to kill two birds with one stone, the government shall expand the airport in Kangra which will improve connectivity and boost tourism in both Kangra and the already famous paragliding destination, Bir-Billing. On the occasion of the closing ceremony of the Accuracy Paragliding Pre-World Cup, Chief Minister Sukhu created awareness of the upcoming projects in hand.

Bir-Billing To Host More Paragliding Competitions & Carnivals

He revealed to Hindustan Times that the airport near Bir-Billing shall undergo expansion to promote tourism in Kangra. In an interview last month, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that the expansion of the Kangra airport shall create many employment opportunities, benefitting the locals.

When it comes to Bir-Billing, he stated that they shall prepare a proposal to organise paragliding competitions in a better way. Also, the government shall acquire land around the landing site. In order to promote tourism in Bir, the government will organise a carnival.

The Himachal Pradesh government’s blueprint to transform Kangra into a tourism capital includes the beautification of Palampur. Guests can expect the emergence of a high-end resort, 24-hour tourist village, wellness centre, roller-skating rink and more. Also, the Pong Dam in the region will have houseboats, water sports activities, yachts and more.

Now that the Kangra airport will undergo expansion it will be easier to travel to Bir-Billing for paragliding. Moreover, the connectivity to an upcoming tourism destination gives you more reasons to visit it.
