Alarming! 19 Goa Beaches Under Threat Of Soil Erosion

19 beaches in Goa, including a few well-known ones, are now under the threat of soil erosion. According to the Department of Water Resources of Goa, beaches in Goa such as Morjim, Anjuna, Agonda, Majorda, and Keri-Tiracol are at the risk of erosion. The reasons attributed to this hazard are the rising sea levels due to global warming and an overabundance of people crowding the beaches. The beach state’s government is working with environmental specialists to find a solution to the problem.

Rise In Sea Levels Is The Major Challenge Here

To check the problem, the Goa government is planning to devise short-term as well as long-term plans. The steps will include the building of shielding fences, employing geo-fibre barriers and tetrapods, among other measures. However, global warming, which is a worldwide phenomenon, is a major challenge here. If sea levels keep rising, soil erosion will also increase. Authorities are also mulling over the restoration of the sand dunes and natural ecosystems.
