How Did The Rumour Begin?

The rumours were started when a post on X (formerly, Twitter) started making rounds which said that Amartya Sen had passed. At first, it seemed that the post was created by a historian Claudia Goldin. And hence, the post is believed to be true so readily.

However, it turned out that the account was actually fake. The creator of the account, as per a newer post by it, is Tomasso Debenedetti. Debenedetti is a fake news writer and aims to expose how easy it is to fool the press in the age of social media.

It seems that this latest hoax regarding Sen’s death was another one of Debenedetti’s attempts.
