The construction of the Dilwara Jain Temple commenced in the 11th century AD. It continued for several centuries, resulting in five stunning temples dedicated to different Jain Tirthankaras (spiritual leaders).
The grandeur of the Dilwara Jain Temple is best exemplified by Vimal Shah, a minister of the Solanki dynasty built in 1031 AD. As one enters the temple, they are greeted by the majestic Navchowki, a nine-square marble pavilion adorned with ornate carvings. The intricate marble work continues throughout the temple, with delicate patterns, filigree screens, and mesmerising sculptures adorning every corner.
The Dilwara Jain Temple consists of five distinct marble temples, each dedicated to a different Tirthankara. These temples are named after their respective benefactors – Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pithalhar, Khartar Vasahi, and Mahavir Swami. However, the Vimal Vasahi temple is the grandest of them all. Additionally, the main hall of the temple features breathtakingly intricate carvings depicting scenes from Jain mythology.
