Andaman And Nicobar All Set To Get Its First Railway Route

Wouldn’t it be wonderful, if traveling to Andaman and Nicobar Islands was as easy as planning the trip? Well, our prayers have been answered because the railways are planning a train in Andaman and Nicobar for the first time.

 

What Is It?

Andaman and Nicobar Island is all set to have its very first railway route connecting Port Blair and Diglipur. The 240 km long rail line will have bridges and stations all located next to the coast.

This is going to be the first Indian rail line to get the archipelago on the rail map. The rout is currently linked by a bus service that covers 35 km in 14 hours and a ship route that takes 24 hours. The introduction of this train will cut down the travel time to just 3 hours.

What’s More?

The aim of this rail line is to promote tourism as it will increase the number of tourists that visit the islands. While the management has foreseen a loss when it comes to the return of investment, they are sure that they can make up for the same by the increasing tourist inflow.

That’s not it. The Port Blair and Diglipur line is also going to have a major significance to the defense forces. Diglipur is only 300 km by sea from the southern coast of Myanmar and with the new train line the distance can be efficiently covered.

Also, the project can help build the strategic lines for Defence ministry like those in the border regions of the Northeast. So, let’s get to planning that much awaited Andaman trip!
