With low temperatures, foggy mornings, breezy evenings, and bone-chilling nights, winters in Northern India are a different experience altogether! Especially when you’re in Delhi-NCR. Known for its notoriously foggy mornings, Delhi has seen delays in 20 trains due to dense fog today. While delays in trains, flights, and buses are nothing new in the city, the inconvenience never gets old. Read on to know more.

On 8th January, Delhi woke up to the coldest morning this season with the lowest temperature at just 5.5° Celsius! This is two degrees below the seasonal average during this time of the year. This led to dense fog and low visibility, which in turn resulted in more than 20 Delhi-bound trains getting delayed this morning. A day before, around 22 trains were delayed due to these severe weather conditions as well.

Thankfully, the India Meteorological Department’s reports for the rest of the day ensured improvement in the weather. The reports suggested shallow fog, higher temperatures, and better humidity throughout the day. For the upcoming week, IMD forecast a shallow to moderate fog, with a possibility of rainfall midweek.

According to Indian Railways 20 Delhi-bound trains were confirmed delayed. A few of these included the Jammutawi Ajmer Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Kanpur-New Delhi Shramshakti, and Amritsar-Mumbai Express.

While the delay for most of these trains was not more than two and a half hours; the Ajmer-Katra Pooja Express, Katihar-Amritsar Express, and Khajuraho-Kurukshetra Express got delayed by six hours!

Well, we suggest planning your travel keeping IMD’s weather reports in mind to avoid any inconvenience. While the weather isn’t in anyone’s control, you can avoid such hassles by checking the weather forecast and IRCTC’s train updates regularly before travel.
