India is geographically gifted with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. However, due to a lack of knowledge and feasibility, many of these beaches aren’t as explored as they should be. That’s why it comes as heartening news that India is hosting its first-ever Beach Games In Diu. This ongoing tournament started on January 4 and has seen a massive participation of more than 1,700 people competing in 8 sports. Read on to know more.

For the first time ever, India witnessed sports on a beach at the ongoing Beach Games 2024 that is taking place in Diu. This tournament has brought together over 1,700 athletes from 20 states and union territories of India to play on the serene beaches of Diu. Beach Games 2024 will conclude on 11th January 2024. This initiative comes in line with PM Modi’s vision to encourage sports amongst Indian youth and revitalise the beaches of India.

 

Union Minister Anurag Thakur took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his support and enthusiasm for this event. He captioned the post while recalling his experience from the opening ceremony of the event, “The energy of the athletes and the beauty of Diu has woven a never-before vibe that is enchanting & exhilarating.” He left an intriguing question on the post asking people where they would want the next beach games to be held.

This tournament has encouraged the youth to showcase their love for sports in a whole new landscape – one that India has never witnessed before. Beach Games 2024 is a massive step towards promoting and encouraging the untapped potential of beach sports in India. This move will not only encourage young people to take up sports but will also showcase India’s ability to host such events on international levels.

 

Beach Games 2024 has also gained popularity on the internet thanks to the ongoing row with Maldives. Amid the whole controversy, Netizens are pouring love and support for the beautiful visuals of serene Diu beaches that are captured during this tournament. A wave of support for Indian beach tourism has taken over social media and the love shown for sports is a bonus here.
