Bangalore Has New Swanky Train Terminal That Offers Airport-Like Facilities

Bangaloreans! The next time you visit Baiyappanahalli train station, you’d wonder if you entered a swanky airport instead. Well, we aren’t kidding. Baiyappanahalli station has a new train terminal that resembles a stunning airport and offers top-notch amenities. After several delays, this terminal finally opened to the public on June 6. Here’s everything to know.

Baiyappanahalli Station’s New Terminal Offers Airport-Like Experiences

According to a report by The Indian Express, Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal at Byappanahalli station has finally opened. The project cost ₹314 crores. An official revealed to the news agency that Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal is India’s third-largest AC rail concourse. The terminal has modern station buildings with central AC that gives passengers an airport-like experience. And if you find yourself wondering why it looks like Bangalore Airport, then here’s why. The new terminal is designed around Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport.

Illuminated Platforms, Centralised AC & More

It has 7 platforms. 8 stabling lines and 3 pit lines. Each platform is 600 metres long and 15 metres wide, and will be illuminated with LED lights. The new terminal is also specially-abled friendly. Ramps connect subways that connect all 7 platforms. There’s also an oval footbridge that links these platforms. The 4200 sqm terminal building can accommodate a daily capacity of 50,000 passengers with 50 trains operating.

Due to several delays, in this project, there won’t be any inauguration. Instead, Banaswadi-Ernakulam Express will be the first train to run from this new terminal from 7 pm on June 6.
