Bangalore Residents Transform Dump Yard Into Park In 2 Years

The Garden City is known for its lush green parks, clear blue lakes, bustling microbreweries, fancy fine dining restaurants and great shopping spots. But the murky side of Bangalore rests in its roads laden with potholes and the dumping grounds in the city, be it at junctions or in specific areas. One such dumping ground happened to be in Domlur. But here’s the good news. Residents of Bangalore transformed this very dumping ground into a park in a span of 2 years. Where buildings and metro projects have neverending construction, the dumping ground in Domlur was turned into the Ajja-Ajji ( Grandmother-Grandfather) Park in just 2 years.

What’s In It?

Bangalore has yet another garden added to the bucket list of tourists, but this one is unique, as it was turned into a serene green space from a black spot by the sincere efforts of its citizens. Paediatrician and the man who initiated the cleanliness drive, Dr Hemant Kumar Agarwal stated to a reputed news agency that around 8 years ago this spot was a cesspool of diseases. It was earlier used by BBM as a garbage dump. And Hemant Kumar tried creating awareness about this amongst residents. The residents collaborated with the NGO The Ugly Indian and the garbage dump starting taking the shape of a green urban park. The Resident Welfare Association and BBMP got together to make this a green lung space.

Lakshmi Narayan C R, Domlur Corporator stated that the road was once inhabited by dogs, cows and rodents that fed on garbage. But now this very same space has been transformed into a lovely park which elderly citizens can frequent. A representative of The Ugly Indian added that the Ajja-Ajji park is a great example to show how residents and authorities can come together to turn a dirty trash dump into a lung space.

Ajja-Ajji Park in Domlur has shown how residents need to take the first step towards change in society. And the result for this is lush greenery, a pleasant space for senior citizens and another green, clean addition to Bangalore. A resident, Balasubrahmani G stated that the park is a peaceful place now.  He goes with his wife often to spend time during the evenings without being bothered by traffic. Another resident, a homemaker, Madhumathi G felt that waste disposal in the ward had been addressed. Did you know Bangalore Is India’s Top Ranked City In The Global Prosperity Index?

She further added that earlier people in the area openly dumped garbage in that spot. But now they have a proper waste disposal method where auto tippers collect garbage on a regular basis, where animal manure and organic waste are used as compost for the plants. Kudos to the citizens of Bangalore, and we can’t wait to visit this park. When it comes to parks, Freedom Park In Bangalore Will Give You Jail Feels.
