Lakhs of people in the Karnataka capital are dependent on the metro services to travel every day, especially on the weekdays. It was just on January 25, 2024, when the metro network recorded the highest-ever ridership in a day. On that day, the Bengaluru metro saw about 7.8 lakh passengers travelling on the metro trains. Well, the passenger footfall on a day has once again increased and broke all the previous records.

This time, the Namma Metro reported a record-breaking footfall of commuters. It was on April 15, 2024, when the metro trains made the highest-ever record of transporting passengers in a single day. According to a report by The Times of India, over 7.92 lakh commuters took Bengaluru metro trains on that day. The numbers are currently so close to 8 lakh. In fact, there are chances for the daily ridership to even extend beyond 8 lakh passengers soon, shared officials.

In a span of less than 3 months, the highest-ever number of daily commuters jumped from 7.8 lakh to 7.92 lakh. It is only about time that we may hear the news of Namma metro achieving a spectacular record of 8 lakh commuters in a day. The way more and more people choose metros in greater numbers among other available transportation facilities, this record does not seem to be too far.

AS Shankar is the executive director (operations and maintenance) of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited. In a conversation with The Times of India, he stated how the metro stations see a rush on Mondays. Many Bengalureans often go on short-haul getaways or away from the city during the weekends and many of them travel on the metro to return on Monday. Another reason behind the increase in ridership is more and more employees starting to work from the office.
