‘Big Relief’ For Mumbai Restaurant Owners After Government Allows Eateries To Operate Till 10 pm

The Maharashtra government has been under extreme pressure to relax curbs in the state and uplift the hard-hit businesses. After multiple requests, the government decided to extend the working hours for restaurants and hotels till 10 pm. As of now, the restaurants in the state were allowed to operate till 4 pm only.

Restaurants & Shopping Malls Can Remain Open Till 10 PM

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has said that the shopping malls will also be allowed to remain open till 10 pm. However, only vaccinated people who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to enter the malls. The staff should also be fully vaccinated in the malls and outlets need to maintain social distancing in their seating arrangements.

Big Relief For Restaurant Owners

The news has come as a big relief for restaurant owners. Here’s what they said after the government extended the operating hours.

“It’s been long-awaited and most welcomed news. This will definitely give a breather to the sinking restaurant Industry. With a faster vaccinations drive and strict restrictions, we hope the industry will come back to normalcy at the earliest” said Aji Nair, COO food and beverages division, Mirah Hospitality (The company that operates Khandani Rajdhani, Bayroute, and Hitchki)

Karan Kabu, Owner, Light House Cafe said, “This is a big relief for the hospitality industry. Being a bar owner, I will say that is not as good as the old 1.30 am timing. But at this point 10 pm is a huge progress so no one will be complaining. We hope it only gets better from here.”

Maharashtra Government Issues SOPs

Maharashtra government has announced these major advisory that needs to be followed from August 15.

  • Local train passengers should be fully vaccinated. A ₹500 fine will be levied on passengers travelling without proof of vaccination.
  • Restaurants can operate till 10 pm with 50% capacity.
  • Shops and shopping complexes can stay open till 10 pm.
  • 200 guests can attend marriage ceremonies in open spaces.
  • Gyms, yoga centsalons, and spas can remain open till 10 pm on all days with 50% capacity.
  • No relaxations cinema halls, drama halls, and places of worship.

Maharashtra reported 5,609 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday and 137 fatalities. Maharashtra’s recovery rate now stands at 96.8% and the fatality rate is 2.01%.
