BMC & Railways To Work Together To Fast-Track Key Bridges In Mumbai
According to a Hindustan Times report, in an effort to accelerate crucial infrastructure projects ahead of the monsoon, the BMC has instructed officials to speed up the construction of major railway flyovers in Mumbai by working in close coordination with the railway authorities. The decision was taken after a joint review meeting of BMC, traffic police, and railway department officials on Thursday. They all assessed the progress report of the Bellasis, Carnac and Sion flyovers during the meeting.
During the review meeting, the officials emphasised the importance of timely completion. They have set deadlines for each project–Bellasis Bridge by November 30, 2025, Carnac Bridge by June 10, 2025, and Sion Flyover by May 31, 2026.
While talking to Hindustan Times, Abhijit Bangar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) said that these works are crucial for easing traffic congestion in Mumbai. He further pointed out that these projects must be completed on time, especially before the monsoon.

More About These Bridges
Here’s how BMC and the railway department are going to work together to timely complete key bridge works in Mumbai –
1. Carnac Bridge – As per reports, the reconstruction of the bridge near Masjid Bunder railway station has entered its final stage. The pillar work on the east side is complete, and foundation work is in progress. The concrete work in the railway zone should be finished by May 7 and the main traffic carriageway by June 10.
2. Sion Flyover – The relocation of BEST bus services on the western side is scheduled to be completed by April 27, 2025. The BMC will also issue the required permissions for tree trimming in the area. After the railways complete the foot-over bridge work in June, it will be handed over to the BMC, paving the way for the remaining demolition of the bridge within railway limits to begin.
3. Bellasis Bridge – The officials have been instructed to target an earlier opening of the bridge by November 2025. Most of the obstructive structures have already been removed, and the remaining 12 will be cleared immediately.
