Breath Analysers Back On Mumbai Streets After 2 Long Years, Just In Time To Mitigate New Year’s Drunken & Rash Driving

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and so are New Year’s Eve parties. And if there’s one thing that these parties are notorious for is alcohol consumption. It is sad but each year there are numerous cases of drunken and rash driving all around. So, keeping all of this in mind, the Mumbai police have announced that they are resuming the use of breath analysers in order to mitigate drunken and rash driving on New Year’s Eve.

Use Of Breath Analysers Resumed To Prevent Drunken & Rash Driving

This decision to resume the use of breath analysers comes as a precautionary measure to mitigate and prevent drunken and rash driving. The use of breath analysers will resume after almost two years. Breath analysers were temporarily put out of use owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The risk of spreading the infection increases if the breath analyser comes in direct contact with an infected person. Last year, to prevent drunk driving, the Mumbai police used blood testing to ensure that the drivers weren’t inebriated to the point of danger.

Over 100 Checkpoints Fixed In Mumbai

The Mumbai police have fixed over 100 checkpoints or nakabandi points in Mumbai to ensure thorough surveillance. This will be a joint collaborative effort between the traffic police and the Mumbai police. Over 150 traffic police officers and more than 2000 police constables will be deployed to ensure the maintenance of traffic laws. Although the aim is to prevent drunken driving on New Year’s Eve, the use of breath analysers will resume from the 29th of December. Experts are unsure of the safety of this move on account of the fact that COVID-19 cases seem to be on the rise again.
