Cable Car Journey Amid Snow Capped Mountains Of Jammu Finally Launched After 25 Years

Lieutenant-governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, GC Murmu and his wife Smita Murmu inaugurated the much-awaited Jammu ropeway project to promote tourism in the winter capital on July 27. The planning of the project took place 25 years back, in the year 1995. However, owing to several reasons, the date of completion of the project kept getting delayed. The government finally launched it and took the first ropeway ride along with other top officials. Jammu & Kashmir also reopened its region for tourists.

Jammu Cable Car Project Thrown Open To The Public

The cable car project is 1.66-km-long and is developed in two phases. The first phase is from Bahu Fort to Mahamaya Park. The second one is from Mahamaya to Peer Kho over the Tawi river. The two routes have eights cabins and fourteen cabins respectively. The estimated cost of the project was ₹75 crores. Jammu also revived its Surinsar Lake and opened it for beating after 30 years.

The authorities have already incurred around 95 per cent of this cost. The cable car corporation had conducted a trial run of the project successfully in April last year.

The Two-Phased Ropeway Project To Create New Jobs For The Locals

As per reports, referring to the project, an official said to media houses “It was following a personal intervention by the L-G that the project has been thrown open to the general public and tourists today. The L-G had directed us to complete the work and make it operational.” Mr Murmu has said to NDTV that this project can help in the growth of the local economy by creating new jobs.

Murmu added that this project is going to be ‘the biggest tourist attraction’ in the coming days.
