Canada To Resume Mandatory Random COVID-19 Testing For Incoming Air Travelers

The government of Canada is again setting up the entry restrictions like testing, and quarantine in order to manage safety at the borders. People entering via four major airports, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, are reportedly going to be tested randomly for COVID-19. Because keeping the Canadians safe is their priority since COVID. The move will come into effect on 19 July and was announced by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Here’s How The Testing Will Be Done

All tests for both fully vaccinated and partially or unvaccinated air travelers will be done outside the airport. Booked directly at the location of the selected test provider or at the pharmacy. Or It is done via one of your own virtual reservations (swab test). Travelers who are not considered fully vaccinated must continue to be tested on days 1 and 8 of the mandatory 14-day quarantine unless exempted. If anybody test’s positive then he or she needs to undergo 10-day isolation.

The travelers selected for the random test at Toronto Pearson will receive an email notification within 15 minutes of completing the customs declaration. Information on how to organize the test is provided at that time.

Use ArriveCAN

All travelers continue to use Arrive CAN (a free mobile app or website) before arriving in Canada and boarding a cruise ship to Canada, with limited exceptions. You must use it to provide the required travel information. This is the fastest, easiest and safest way to show that a traveler meets public health requirements. More efforts are being made to improve ArriveCAN compliance.

  • Frequent travelers can take the advantage of the “saved traveler” feature in ArriveCAN. Because it allows users to save travel documents and vaccination records for future travel.

Canada’s Minister of health Jean-Yves Duclos said “We need to keep border testing measures in place because that is how we track the importation of the COVID-19 virus, and of new variants of concern. We will keep adapting our border measures to balance the need to protect Canadians while supporting our economic recovery.”

Prior to Canada’s abandonment forced random testing of people flying into Canada on June 11 as part of a broader strategy for migrating air travelers from airport testing.
