We are aware of how food items sold in any airport are always quite expensive and there are so many reasons behind it. How much do you pay for 2 pieces of samosas from your nearest store? Not even ₹50 right? And when you are purchasing it from a famous and huge mithai shop, it won’t cost you more than ₹100 most of the time. Well, the prices of simple food items such as ginger tea and samosas at Mumbai airport will stun you. A journalist took to her Twitter account to show the uber-expensive food bill.
Journalist Tweets Pricey Food Bill From Mumbai Airport
A Twitter user named Farah Khan shared a photo of her order and the food bill on her official Twitter account. It is mentioned in her bio that she is a”journalist”. Farah posted photos on 28 December mentioning the price of all the foods at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and even mocked the government writing “Kafi ache din aa gae hain“. In the food bill shared by the journalist, a cup of ginger tea cost her ₹160, 2 samosas cost her ₹260, and one 500 ml bottle of water cost ₹70. After including taxes, her subtotal was ₹490. It is indeed a huge amount of money for such a small quantity of food but very common in any airport, be it Mumbai or international. Prices of food and beverages are always costly in the airports and this is nothing new.

Even before the Modi-led government, the prices of food in airports were high and some Netizens pointed this out to the journalist. Twitterati criticised Farah for mocking the government because of such high prices in the airport. Some even asked her to read about the reason behind higher costs in airports.

While some criticised Farah, many came in her support as well. One Twitter user pointed out how small sweet shops make a profit by selling samosas at a minimal price and the airport is charging such a bomb to make a profit.
