According to reports, a part of the flyover at the Royapettah High Road – Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai junction is being bulldozed. The knocking down of the flyover began on the evening of January 22, according to a report by Times Now News. The primary reason for breaking a portion of this flyover is to arrange for the upcoming underground station of the Chennai metro. As a result, the demolition is going to clear the path for the underground metro station.

It has only been two days since the demolition began. It will take about 1 to 2 months to completely break off the part of the flyover, as shared by the officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited. The construction of the metro station will take some time and the traffic diversions will be followed till the completion of this project.

Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai station is the underground station of the metro rail. It is a part of the 116 km Phase II project’s corridor 3. The decision to knock off the part of the flyover was taken as the flyover’s foundation is in the same space as the location plans for the metro station.

  • An official stated that the duration to complete the underground metro station will be around 3 years, according to a report by The Hindu.
  • This station of 15 metre to 18 metre will get two points for entry and exit.
  • Following this development, the concerned departments will reconstruct the flyover and later allow the public to use it.
  • The budget for the Phase II project is ₹61,843 crore.
