Dehradun: Chlorine Gas Leak Reported; Residents Evacuated After Having Breathing Issues

The Jhanjra area in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun has recently witnessed a chlorine gas leak. On Tuesday morning, the Prem Nagar police station received a report regarding the same. Panic-stricken residents complained of breathing difficulties and hence, the area was evacuated. Officials are already taking action and relief teams have been deployed to take care of the situation.

Dehradun: Chlorine Gas Leak Reported In Jhanjra

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the officials from the National Disaster Response Force or NDRF rushed to the site as soon as they received information about it.

As per officials cited in the article, the residents have been evacuated from affected areas. They have been taken to a safe place where the gas leak would not affect them. The gas leak was caused by a cylinder of chlorine gas which was kept in an empty plot in Jhanjra.

The MLA of Sahaspur, Sahdev Singh Pundir, stated that there were a total of seven chlorine cylinders. He also went on to say that the situation could have been worse but was prevented by the prompt action taken by authorities.

Residents Evacuated After Encountering Breathing Issues

The residents of the area complained of breathing problems, and hence, were moved to a safe place by the authorities. Luckily though, no casualties have been reported because of the gas leak so far as per the police.

In addition to NDRF, officials from SDRF and the Fire Team as well as Dehradun Police are also present at the scene. The swift action taken by authorities prevented what could have been a horrific incident.
