Pier C At Delhi Terminal 3 To Handle Overseas Flights

According to a report by MSN, this move marks a key step toward strengthening the airport’s capacity and positioning it as an important global aviation hub. Operated by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Aero-led consortium, the Delhi airport will see its international passenger-handling capacity increase by nearly 50% following the transition.

This translates into an additional 10 million passengers annually, increasing Terminal 3’s total international capacity to an estimated 30–32 million passengers per annum. Pier C has been a part of Delhi’s Terminal 3 since its inception and has been converted from domestic to international operations without any new construction. The move focuses on unlocking current infrastructure capacity while improving efficiency and passenger flow.

Key Benefits Of The Pier 3

For the smooth expansion of the international operations, major infrastructure and technology upgradation have been introduced. It includes 12 additional self-baggage drop counters, more efficient check-in, and 20 e-migration counters, including those under the Trusted Traveller Programme.

Additionally, security screening capacity has also been enhanced with five Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) lanes and dual-view X-ray systems. The 16 boarding gates have been converted for international use, and 40 extra immigration counters have been added in arrivals to reduce the number of travellers.

The upgrade also strengthens other airside capabilities, such as 16 Code-C aircraft stands. Pier C will support and enhance faster aircraft turnaround times and easier gate allocation. The airport also plans to roll out an expanded mix of retail and food and beverage offerings. Additional facilities such as lounges, spa services, and charging stations will be introduced in phases.

As per a news portal, India’s international air traffic is all set to grow at around 7% in the medium term, and Delhi Airport will play a key role in accommodating this demand. With the Pier C transition, the airport is expected to have a major increase in international capacity for the next 8–10 years
