Delhi Flights Disrupted Due To Unseasonal Rains & Low Visibility; 25 Flights Diverted To Jaipur

Bad weather conditions and low visibility in Delhi caused major flight disruptions on Friday night, leading to the diversion of around 25 flights to Jaipur. Read on to know more about the development.

25 Flights Diverted To Jaipur

As per a report by the Indian Express, an airport official stated that during the diversions, the duty hours of four flight pilots had expired, as Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules prohibit flying beyond the prescribed limit. As a result, the four flights remained in Jaipur, and travellers from two of them were deplaned and transported to Delhi by bus.

Due to the extremely bad weather conditions in the national capital, six more flights, two international and four domestic, were diverted later to Jaipur at night. These included flights from destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Colombo, New York, and Fujairah.

Bad Weather Conditions In Delhi

According to the portal, airport sources said that Jaipur serves as one of North India’s important diversion hubs during weather disruptions. Airports across the NCR are severely affected by bad weather, and in such a situation, Jaipur becomes a viable alternative. The diversion of flights increased air traffic and kept the Jaipur airport busy till late into the night.

The official answered the reason behind the sudden influx of flights and said that, as an international airport, it is important to manage increased traffic. He also informed that the weather conditions began to improve late at night, and flights were subsequently diverted to Delhi.

In another incident, a full emergency was declared at the Jaipur airport as an AirAsia international flight, D7-182, was unable to land in Delhi due to low visibility. The flight remained in a prolonged holding pattern over the capital. Resulting in low fuel levels, due to which the flight was then diverted to Jaipur as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely at around 11:15 pm. It later departed for Delhi at approximately 3 am.
