“The Happiest Place On Earth”, Disneyland (Shanghai) has just unveiled a wonderful Zootopia-themed adventure park. With a telos to capture China’s post-pandemic desire for travel and experiences, Shanghai Disney Resort’s Zootopia-themed attraction promises a larger-than-life experience for Zootopia fans.

Zootopia Themed Adventure Park Comes To Shanghai Disneyland

Zootopia, a Disney animated film released in 2016 witnessed immense success in China. The film charts the ambition of a rabbit, Judy Hopps, employed in the Zootopia Police Department as a rookie officer. On sniffing out a sinister plot, she takes the help of a con artist, a fox, Nick Wilde to solve the case and prove her abilities to Chief Bogo. The film ended up being one of China’s highest-grossing foreign-language animated films ever released.

This marks Disney’s first every Zootopia-themed adventure parks and it’s the 8th such themed area to be launched at the Shanghai Disney Resort. China’s capital first welcomed a Disney themed adventure park in 2018. It was later expanded to accommodate a Toy Story-themed attraction in 2018. Post the lifting of COVID-19 curbs in 2022, China is slowly witnessing a rebound in domestic travel and experiences. Shanghai Disney Resort is one of the beneficiaries of this rebound.

According to a report by Shanghai Disney Resort’s President and General Manager, Joe Schott states that over the last year people have emerged from the virus by getting out and experiencing life once more. Walt Disney also clocked in a higher attendance at its Shanghai and Hong Kong parks. This itself led to a 31 per cent growth in its Experiences division. And theme parks are an integral part of this division. Do note that Shanghai Disney Resort is a joint venture between Disneyland and Shendi Group which holds a 57 per cent stake.

As per Yicai Global, the chairman of Disney Experiences, Josh D’Amaro, revealed that Shanghai Disneyland proved to be a major success and with 13 million guests in 2023, they will bid goodbye to their record year with much success. When it comes to Zootopia, visitors can have a gala time in the animal-dwelling urban area. Zootopia: Hot Pursuit is a trackless ride where guests can join the film’s main protagonists, Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps on a chase.

Also, just like in the animated film, there’s a store that sells doughnuts and ice creams to cater to the needs of all the animals. There’s also a foot-tapping performance by Gazelle that visitors must look forward to. It’s about dancing, grooving and living in the moment.

At the Shanghai Disney Resort, ticket bookings surged by a whopping 300 per cent in the recent week. This is all thanks to the highly anticipated Zootopia adventure park opening. Chief Executive Robert Allen Iger also shows his confidence in the ambitious project and in the development of Shanghai’s Disneyland Park.
